LESSONS FROM DANIEL # 6
6:1-3 v.1,Darius placed by Cyrus over Babylonia
v.2, President Daniel, about 85 yrs. old
v.3, distinguished for his character. Am I a Daniel? Follow his
rule: Col. 3:2,22,23!
6:4-9 v.4, faithful, no error, nor fault. “Perfect”
v.5, What a testimony to his reputation! Eph. 5:27, no spot or
blemish or any such thing
v.6, empty praise, appeal to vanity
v.7, a lie! King like a god. Rom.16:18. They know Daniel: no disobedience
to God!
v.9, flattery / character weakness—Herod, Pi- late, Agrippa.
Sacrifice righteous, not pride
6:10-15 v.10, inflexible in conviction. Nothing has changed (1:8);
no need to fluctuate now
v.11, nothing changed by threats. Difference between conviction
and convenience
v.12, what hypocrisy! Not concerned about the law but only about
Daniel’s death
v.13, racism, misrepresentation(favorite tactic)
Truth: Daniel will not obey the edict!
v.14, the king recognizes the manipulation
v.15, very astute. Daniel fears God (Mt.10:28)
6:16-18 v.16, key word of eulogy: “continually”
God changes not (Mal.3:6); why should I?
v.17, this act will impede God? really?
v.18, no pleasure alleviates tormented consc.
6:19-23 v.19, the king shows hope against hope
v.20, the king implores his subject (like Neb., and Belshazzar
did). Who’s in control?
v.21, Daniel shows no bitterness, just respect
v.22, men condemned him, but not God!
v.23, Daniel’s “secret”: trust in God; 3:17,18
6:24 v.24, oriental justice at that time
6:25-27 v.25,26, Darius, polytheist still —“the God
of Daniel”
v.27, emphasis: God’s unlimited power
6:28 v.28, Daniel served five great kings! Now an official of
the Persian government.
Lesson: learn to suffer unjustly for God; the suffering saint
will be vindicated!
